Report Monarch Butterflies

Monarch butterfly is an insect that has four legs and two wings. One of the best ways to tell a butterfly from a moth is to look at it's feelers. The butterfly is divided into three parts, they are the thorax abdomen and the head. The colour of a monarch butterfly is orange and black. They can fly far distances. The monarch butterfly can live for six months. When it is winter the monarch flies aways to another country were is warmer. From here to Australia it would take three to four days to get there altogether. Half way there they will have a rest on the water and get some food for the rest of the day. when a monarch butterfly is born it waits for two to three minutes for the wings to warm up. They do that so there wings can dry up so they can fly. monarch butterflies are cold blooded so they need to do that. If you see that the wings of a monarch butterfly is torn and broken that means that it is old and wont be able to fly far distances. monarch butterflies feed on poisonous milkweed. The poison stays with the butterfly through out it's life, making it harmful on small insects. Another name for the milkweed is a swan plant. That is a plant that has milk inside of the steam. Adult monarchs eat on nectar that is in the middle of flowers. The monarch butterfly is one of the best known butterfly in America.

My speech
Speech: Our Cool School by Te Kawehau
What do you think of Kelvin Road School? I think our school is the best school in Papakura. We have the best school because we have awesome teachers. They teach us exciting topics such as Space and Trains. At Kelvin Road School there are about 450 pupils and 47 staff.
Our school is fantastic because unlike other schools we have lots of equipment and resources. There are four fields and three adventure playgrounds and we have many computers in every class room. Soon we shall be building a climbing gear train. This year the school might be getting some more drinking fountains.
At our school there is a radio station that you can listen to if you live nearby in Papakura. Our radio station is called KRS FM 107.1. Every day we present the news and ongoing events. I think we are the only school with a radio station so we are very lucky.
Every year we have wonderful visitors, musicians and authors that come to our school to talk to us. During book week we had a visit from the author Chris Gurney, Lindy Davis and others. Even TV 3 presenters came to read to the juniors. We celebrated by having a book parade with the entire school.
Each term there is an inter-school sports day and a lot of children participate to have fun. This year we have had the summer sports, winter sports and gymnastics and I have participated in all three events. This term we have been learning about trains and in week 5 the seniors went to Britomart.
In Room 8 we have been doing heaps of cool and exciting things, for example we had a class trip to the Sir Edmund Hillary library. Most of us became members of the library and borrowed books and Play-aways. We also went to the art gallery which was fantastic. Room 8 has also competed in poetry recital. We had to practice hard to make Mrs Raman proud and we did. I came first because I listened to Mrs Raman’s advice. The thing that I enjoyed doing was making the space question video for astronaut Mark Polansky. My question got chosen and was answered by the astronaut from space. This year my teacher helped us create networking accounts such as gmail, twitter and a blog. She did that so we could interact and stay in touch with each other when we are at home or overseas and also to communicate with our global gateway buddies. I have a blog and I have already written something about the book parade on my blog. Our teacher told us never to share our important information on the Internet. Every Tuesday we are lucky to have one hour of Taha Maori with Whaea Erena which is really fun. On . We are so lucky to have all these awesome opportunities at our cool school. That's why I think Kelvin Road School is the best school in Papakura. Don't you agree?

If you have a pet
Do you have a pet I do my pet is a cat. I think he is the luckiest cat in the world. He also gets the five freedoms the five freedoms are 1. shelter 2.food 3.water 4.lovingness 5.care. If your pet does not have the five freedoms well you can start today. It is very easy to look after a pet but some times hard. Amagine all of the pets that don't have the five freedoms they feel sad and not cared about what if you were a pet and you got treated like that you would not like it would you.
Here is a website to tell you more facts about looking after your pet

The world would be a better place if...

No litter on the ground
There was no povity
Every child has an education
There is no polution

Every child has an education
Every one is rich
There is no smoking
More trees
No drugs
A family day
There are no killers
Every one was safe
The world was made os candy
There were no guns
The ground was a trampoline
Every one was smart
We could live on mars
We could live in outer space
Everyone had a wish

Favourite mode of transport

What is your favourite mode of transport?
I like travelling by train to go places but I sometimes get a headache because of staying on the train for too long.
I like going on the bycicle, but when I want to go far away places the bycicle is not the best transport.
I like going on the bus to take me places but what I don't like is it can get smelly and boring.
I like going by car but sometimes when you're tired you still have to keep driving to where you're going.
I like riding on the scooter but when you are going to far away places on a scooter your legs start to get stressed.
I really like going by motorbike but what I don't like is that you have to use allot of gas.
My favourite mode of transport is going by ferry because it's smooth and relaxing and the water is so beautiful and you can also sleep during the ride. If you are hungry they will bring you some chips and a cookie plus a drink

Book Parade 2009
On Friday 14 August Kelvin Road School had a book parade and it was awesome. Everyone at Kelvin Road School dressed up as someone from a book they have read. I dressed up as Little Red Riding Hood. Every class there had to stand up on the stage and show off their costumes. Alot of people were pirates, vampires, princesses and angels. Mr McMillan dressed up into the wizard, Dumbeldor. Mr. Naidoo came as along as a goal keeper with a pirate hat on. My teacher Mrs Raman came as the spider, Charlotte from Charlotte's Web. We all had fun at the book parade. When the bell rang we all went to class and got our things and went into the bathroom and got changed into our uniform and went back to class to eat our lunch. At the end of the day my mum and her friend came to our class to teach us how to make another putiputi with harekeke. We all did it well. At the very end of the day everyone was all tired and flat out from the big FUN book parade.
